I love a delicious meal. There is something to be said about enjoying a flavourful dish with an accompanying beverage that just makes you think about the richness of being alive. And I have always been fascinated by what goes into imagining then preparing, flavouring, and serving up food.
My late mother used to tell the story of how I would always ‘cook’ the food I was given. My version of cooking would be to pour some water into my bowl and stir vigorously, as you can imagine this made for a rather watery meal that would however fill me with a sense of pride for having ‘made’ my own breakfast/lunch/dinner. To this day I still have a hazy recollection of my tiny hands holding a pink Tupperware bowl, a part of a set that my parents had purchased for myself and my siblings.
My mother’s skill in turning anything into a filling, flavourful meal further convinced me of the magic that is cooking. My mother and I would spend countless hours watching the Food Network, discuss what to bake from an old copy of her Royal Baking Powder cookbook.
When the time came for me to choose careers, I opted for journalism but soon I made my way back to the world of food. As a journalist I was able to attend menu launches, speak to chefs, home cooks and cookbook authors.
Later, I discovered Anthony Bourdain’s show Parts Unknown that cemented the belief that I always had, that food is a means of connection, healing, and fun.
As part of my work, I was able to travel to some of the most desired locations in the world. My most memorable trip was to the Maldives where at a luxury all-inclusive resort called Hurawalhi, I was able to dine at the world’s largest all glass undersea restaurant, 5.8 Undersea Restaurant.
My next foray into all things culinary is this blog.
I am looking forward to the many things that will come from it. I aim to continue to put the spotlight on culinary professionals and their achievements and endeavours. In conjunction, the readers that look for interesting or easy recipes to spice up their meals will be able to find them here as I will be collaborating with industry professionals to provide those recipes and doing a bit of recipe development of my own. For those looking for dining options and want to know what products and establishments are worth a visit? Look no further because I will be writing reviews as well. I look forward to creating a community of like-minded people and to them I say.
Come sit at my table and let me dish all for you.
