I love a theme, especially when it is food related.

You’re inviting me to a Cape Verdean themed evening? I’m going to be blasting Cesária Évora hits all week to count down to the dinner.

So, you can imagine my joy when I discovered the wonderful world of themed cafés. I discovered just how many kinds of themed cafés where out there because of two Korean Youtubers. I had followed the twin sisters because of their sewing and fashion videos and two years into watching their content they posted about visiting a themed café in South Korea. That video was posted about 10 years ago!

After a lot of their audience expressed their interest in the café videos, they started posting more content on themed cafes in South Korea. They even had a signature phrase, “Sprinkle, sprinkle unicorn dandruff”, which they used as they put some Stevia in their drink of choice.

They’ve since evolved into high fashion and beauty influencers, buying a house, flying all over the world collaborating with Gucci Beauty, Miu Miu, Cos, and put out a clothing collection and even have plans to build their own cafe.  Their YouTube channel is called Q2Han. As I write this, I am amazed at how much time I have spent with these two strangers that I haven’t spoken a single word to! Over 10 years of my life!

But back to the cafes.

Thanks to my YouTube adventures I’ve been exposed to themed cafés, and I now know what I like. I know some countries have cafes that are animal themed and have animals that people can pet, that is not for me. I love the concept of a rain café, a character themed one or a reading themed one. That’s more my vibe.

I also love a designer café; it’s such a great way for people to feel like they own or a part of a world they’ve admired for so long. So, when I was in Johannesburg earlier this year, I headed to Hyde Park Corner to check out the Marc’s by Marc Jacobs Café.

My nephew tagged along and after a splendid lunch at Le Parc, we headed down to the café and we both liked it. The yellow décor is so cheery and sunny, it instantly made me smile. The friendly staff kept the smile on my face, with their service and willingness to answer any questions I had.

We didn’t order much, just a Classic Cappuccino (R52) for my nephew and I had the Madison Vanilla Latte(R62) and a The Vanille Dream(R180) entremets dessert, the ingredients are Tonka bean, crème brûlée, vanilla and dark chocolate. It is inspired by the Daisy Love fragrance.  If you get this don’t put any sugar in your drink. I loved it.

The café has salads, pasta, sandwiches, hot drinks, cold drinks and matcha on the menu.

There were many opportunities for some lovely Instagram pictures. I can see the girlies having fun taking pictures of what’s in their bags and having a Marc Jacobs branded refresher towel in there.

It was a fun little stop, defiantly more of a place for images and providing people with a more relaxed way to look at designer merchandise.

My nephew had fun looking at a pair of R20 000 sneakers he was hoping I’d buy for him… umm yeah… I would go again just to have a bit more from the menu. And of course, to take more pictures!
